THE HUMAN SIDE OF AI ADOPTION
AI Adoption Readiness Diagnostic
Most AI programmes fail on people, not technology. This diagnostic scores how ready your organisation is to adopt AI in a way people trust and actually use, across the four stages of adoption: see clearly, bring people with you, govern well, and make it stick.
Work through each statement and answer for how things really are today, not how you would like them to be. There is no pass or fail. The point is to see where you stand and where to start.
Why now: from 2 August 2026 the EU AI Act requires meaningful human oversight and AI literacy wherever AI affects people. In Australia, the national Guidance for AI Adoption sets the expectation today, with new transparency duties for automated decisions about people from December 2026. Several of the statements below map directly to those duties.
It takes about seven minutes, and nothing is saved against your name.
See clearly
Knowing where AI already touches the work, what counts as high risk, and where the real fears sit.
We know where AI is already being used across our teams, including informal and unofficial use.
We have identified which of our AI uses could be high risk, such as anything touching hiring, performance or people decisions.
Leaders have a realistic view of what AI can and cannot reliably do in our context.
We understand where people feel anxious, sceptical or resistant about AI.
Bring people with you
Trust, honest communication and genuine consultation, including employee representatives where they apply.
People affected by AI are genuinely consulted, not just informed after the decision is made.
Where employee representatives or works councils apply, they are involved early and properly.
We communicate honestly about why AI is being introduced and what it means for people’s work.
Managers are equipped to have the difficult conversations that AI raises with their teams.
Govern well
Human oversight, clear accountability and everyday AI literacy, in line with what the law now expects.
A named person is clearly accountable for how each significant AI system is used.
There is meaningful human oversight of AI decisions that affect people.
We can explain, in plain language, how our important AI tools reach their outputs.
We are building practical AI literacy across the whole workforce, not only among specialists.
Make it stick
Moving from launch to real use, with honest measurement, reusable templates and regular review.
We measure whether AI tools are actually being adopted and used, not just bought.
We track the real impact of AI on work, quality and people, not only on cost.
We have reusable templates and ways of working, so each new AI rollout is not built from scratch.
We review and adjust as the tools, the roles and the regulation change.
